Protecting some of Africa's most threatened species

Who we are

Since 2008, Elephant Aware has protected elephants and other wildlife in the Siana Conservation Area in the Mara ecosystem in Kenya. Employing innovative strategies, they prevent human-elephant-conflict through patrols by Maasai rangers. Together with conservation partners, the rangers engage in anti-poaching efforts, community outreach, research and education. Supported solely by private donations, Elephant Aware provides a safe refuge for a sub population of an estimated 600+ elephants in this part of the ecosystem.

What We Do

Elephant Aware

Wildlife Protection

Elephant Aware employs 17 Rangers to monitor and protect Elephants and Giraffe and to help communities to live safer lives with wildlife by preventing Wildlife Conflict. Each of the rangers are Maasai and they have grown up within our area of operation, a fact that is incredibly essential to their work.
Elephant Aware

Community Outreach

The Maasai communities who live within the Mara ecosystem are also the landowners of this crucial and wildlife rich part of Kenya. It is therefore very important that their cultural values and livelihoods are prioritized. The Maasai people have coexisted with wildlife for centuries in relative harmony however modern day pressures have put a strain in this relationship.
Oloropilé Fund

The Oloropilé Fund

This fund was set up in February 2020 in Memory of a very special Elephant named Oloropilé who tragically lost his life in an incident of Human-Elephant-Conflict. The purpose of this fund is to provide support to families who have lost loved ones due to conflict cases between elephants and people and in so doing help protect both communities and elephants.
Siana Conservency
