On the 27th of Janurary 2018 this collared bull elephant, Lempiris, was successfully treated for an infected arrow wound. It wasn’t an easy task and was only made possible thanks to the amazing effort from all concerned. As always, the Mara Vet Unit did a fantastic job responding and rushing to the aid of another Mara elephant. It is believed that Lempiris was injured in a Human-Elephant-Conflict incident which has become a prevalent issue in Kenya and across the continent due to rapidly growing human populations and shrinking wild habitat. Lempiris has a positive prognosis and the rangers will continue to monitor him to the best of their ability. The entire team at the Mara Vet Unit work around the clock to help wildlife in need and we have the utmost admiration for their work, as well as their incredible dedication to saving animal lives across the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Well done !
